Peebles Hogmanay set to fling into the New Year, and help the High School

Peebles High Street is set to enjoy a taste of highland Hogmanay when, for the first time, the Peebles Hogmanay Torchlight Procession is led out by highland dancers and pipers. The young dancers, from the acclaimed Fiona Henderson’s School of Dance, will lead the spectacular procession down the High Street dancing a traditional reel as they go.

The community spectacular will see thousands of locals and visitors come together to create a magical procession of fire around the stunning streets of Peebles will now start in a uniquely Scottish style.

“We are thrilled to have Fiona’s School of Dance lead out the procession this year,” says Neil Dalgleish, from Peebles-based events company Hillside Outside. “The Torchlight Procession is all about bringing the community together to welcome the New Year so being able to involve some of the local children like this is fantastic.”

Organisers are also delighted that some of the money raised for Peeblesshire Youth Trust, the official charity for 2019, will go towards helping with the recent tragedy at Peebles High School. “A main focus of the Trust is helping children with the transition from primary school to high school and for those transitioning in 2020 we are unsure what this will look like just yet,” explains Sarah Keen, Programme Manager of the Peeblesshire Youth Trust. “It will certainly not be as straightforward as other years and internally we are already looking at how to best support this to ensure as smooth a transition as possible and the funds raised from the Torchlight Procession will go a long way in helping with this.”

Vouchers to take part are available online at www.peeblestorchlight.com or in person from The Super Store, Northgate, Peebles and the Hub on the High Street, Innerleithen. The procession itself will start at 6pm on 31st December, with torch vouchers exchanged for the torches from 12noon, when a limited number of torches will be available to buy on the day too. The Torchlight Procession is delighted to be supported by Life Heal Peebles, Blackwood and Smith Solicitors and Estate Agents, Renwick and Weir Ltd and Evolution Bottling and Packaging Solutions.
