SHARE THE GIFT OF FRIENDSHIP WITH OLDER PEOPLE IN PEEBLES

A charity is appealing to the Peebles population to identify those in their community who would enjoy its free monthly Sunday afternoon tea parties.

Contact the Elderly launched in Peebles last year but the group needs guests. Volunteer drivers and hosts are poised to provide tea, cake and conversation to older people who live alone.

Contact the Elderly has 125 groups throughout Scotland, providing a vital lifeline of friendship to 900 older people.

Jennifer Kaney, Development Officer at Contact the Elderly, said:

“There has been an outpouring of support from volunteers to have a Contact the Elderly group in Peebles and we know there must be older people out there who would enjoy our events.

“We hope readers of this article will take a little time to think of anyone they might know within the community who would enjoy a few hours of tea, cake and conversation. Our friendly and informal tea parties are beloved by hundreds of people throughout the country and we want to extend that lifeline of friendship to older people in Peebles.”

Contact the Elderly can post leaflets explaining more about the tea parties or arrange a call or visit to any potential guests. Contact Jennifer.kaney@contact-the-elderly.org.ukor 01786 235034.
