People First Borders, an independent, self-advocacy organisation for people with learning difficulties, is starting a new group in Tweeddale.
The first meeting of the new group will take place on Monday 25 February, in the Volunteer Resource Centre at School Brae, Peebles.
Advocacy is a way of helping people to have their say and increase their confidence. There are currently People First groups in Galashiels, Kelso, Duns and Hawick.
The group members get together to support each other and campaign on issues that affect them. They want to:
• be involved in the community
• make decisions about their own lives
• have friends and relationships
• get proper jobs and wages
• be respected.
