Scouts – Try something new today!

Scouting in south east Scotland grew by 7.5% last year and with demand continuing to rise across the age ranges, a new Explorer Scout Unit for 14-18 year olds is needed in the Peebles area to support young people moving on from their Scout Troops in Peebles, Cardrona and West Linton. At present a major stumbling block is lack of adult volunteers – can you help?

Young people join Explorer Scouts to take part in exciting, unusual and adventurous activities and to socialise with their friends. At this age, Explorer Scouts start to take more  responsibility for their own programme and decide on the type of activities they want to be involved in, with the role of adult volunteers being more about helping to facilitate the programme than deliver it every week.

Training and on-going support is provided to all volunteers, and no experience of Scouting is required – although an interest in getting outdoors and supporting young people can be helpful!

If you would like to find out more about this exciting volunteer opportunity please contact Scott Burton, Local Development Officer, on 0131 229 3756 or development@sesscouts.org.uk.
